It is rare that a patient has to file a Medicare claim for a few reasons. First, those who receive their care through Medicare Advantage Plans (formerly Medicare+Choice) need not file claims at all. Those companies are paid a monthly fee by Medicare and do not have to file claims.
In the past, extended families played larger parts in the lives of children. Family members often lived in close proximity to one another, and parents tended to stay together. Policies have many different features relating to the definition of long-term care; the amount and type of benefits and benefit periods; and exclusions. Additionally, some policies provide for death benefits.
Medicaid provides long-term health care benefits for certain qualifying residents of nursing homes depending upon available income and resources. To be eligible for Medicaid, the applicant's monthly income and resources cannot exceed established limits.
